The Last Week of Daniel’s Vision

I want to preface this post by saying it has been in draft form from at least 2021.  I’ve been updating it and rechecking some links.  I am publishing as much as has been updated at this time.  As stated, it has been in draft form since 2021.  For some reason, it seems good to publish it now.

It might be that some sit out of voting and politics because of eschatology.  The only purpose in publishing this is not to convert anyone to a certain timeline but only to perhaps put a crack in a belief system that might cause some to sit out the election.

The coming electoral choice is clear … either Trump or communism.

If you are still here after November 5, you do not want to be living under communism.

For those who do not know, communism is an atheistic political view. To be in a communist nation means your children are owned by the state and believers are persecuted.

With that said, I am publishing something that has been in draft form from 2021.  I’ve attempted to edit it a bit to make it more understandable.

Whether you agree with the timeline or not is not the point.  The point is that the seven years that some people count on may not be there, in which case, your vote matters.

Due to eschatalogy and an expectation that Jesus will return quickly, that Christians have felt like they could opt out of being involved in the political process. As someone unknown said “Why should I fight if I’m going to take flight?”

Some people may be complacent about voting because they honestly think they don’t need to … they have a “God’s got this” type of mentality, a “what will be will be” “no matter what” mentality, and they believe that whether they vote or not, or what they do or don’t do, does not matter.

However, if you read the Bible from the beginning to the end you will find a lot of “if … then” statements. The story of Jonah, a mere four chapters that anyone can read in a few minutes, shows that the repentant decisions of the king and his citizens preserved Ninevah for a time. Otherwise, it would have been destroyed.

The rich young ruler came to Jesus and went away sorrowful. Jesus said, “If any man will come after me …” again implying an “if…then” type of relationship.

The problem with the over-emphasis on grace that has gone on in some preaching circles is that it throws everything on Jesus and none on personal responsibility and obedience. You cannot hold a position that there is nothing required of mankind or each individual because of what Jesus did. If you read the Old Testament, The gospels, and the Epistles, this is evident.

In order to get rid of the evidence, some will say … that is Old Testament … so it no longer applies. Others will say that the gospels were for the Jews only, so they no longer apply. The most liberal like to stay in the epistles only … but there is plenty in the epistles to indicate that man has responsibility before God. What we do … or don’t do … matters.

Read through the book of James.

Here is some verses from James.

James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

This is from Paul himself. If he thought everything was a “done deal” and that he could coast on flowerly beds of ease, then why did he write this?

Philippians 3:7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

Here is more. If “nothing matters” or “what will be, will be”, then what about this?

Hebrews 12:12 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

So with that preface, let’s start with the book of Daniel.

Let’s focus on Daniel’s prophecy of 70 weeks. Daniel had been taken into captivity. He was trained and used in administrative purposes of (what we could call) several changing administrations of captors. Daniel knew the prophecies and knew that something was going to happen after 70 years of captivity. By this time, he is an older man. If he was captured and began his training and service, say around 15 years old, that would now make him around 85 years old, more or less. Daniel is praying, and has been praying and fasting for three weeks, and an angel was sent to him with a message from God.

Daniel’s prophecies in predicting the rise and fall of empires have proven to be correct.  There are those, who because of the accuracy of Daniel’s predictions, try to say that Daniel was written “after the fact” by some unknown author who used the name of Daniel. But Jesus referred to the book of Daniel. Jesus considered what Daniel said to be authentic.

Prophets of the Old Testament were inspired of God and had the ability to foresee events even hundreds of years down the timeline of history.  They were that accurate in hearing God. Daniel was one of those accurate prophets.

Daniel 9:20 And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God for the holy mountain of my God;

21 Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.

22 And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.

23 At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.

24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

 

In prophetic time, the general consensus is that a week is considered to be a “week of years”. So one week of 7 days represents 7 years in prophetic time.

The angel describes this time period in a certain way. It is 7 weeks. It is threescore and two weeks (in the King James Version). Since a “score” is 20, three score would be (3X20) or 60 plus two weeks (threescore and two weeks) is 62 weeks.

So we have 7 weeks + 62 weeks which equals 69 weeks.

That leaves one week unaccounted for.  (…from verse 24, Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people)      (70 weeks – 69 weeks = 1 week, one prophetic week which equals 7 years)

Seventy years earlier, the Jewish nation had been captured by Babylon. The Jewish temple had been destroyed. While a few Jews were left in the land, most were taken to Babylon.

So the message from the angel talks about “to restore and to build Jerusalem to the Anointed One, the prince, will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks”

There are two divisions of activities; time is divided into two corresponding sections.

To restore and build Jerusalem will be seven weeks.

To the Anointed One, the prince, will be sixty-two weeks from the end of the seven weeks.

There has to be a start date for the beginning of the rebuilding of the temple, for the beginning of the seven weeks.

What is the start date?

The rebuilding project took place through several administrations.

It was stopped. It was restarted.

It is like the wall at the southern border of the United States (this is being written in 2021). The wall was started and then stopped. The same type of thing happened with this Jerusalem rebuilding project, so the initial decree to build was reinstated or refreshed and continued in other administrations.

There are multiple scriptures regarding this.

II Chronicles 36:22 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,

II Chronicles 36:23 Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath the Lord God of heaven given me; and he hath charged me to build him an house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people? The Lord his God be with him, and let him go up.

Isaiah 44:28 That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.

Ezra 1:2  Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The Lord God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.

Ezra 6:14 And the elders of the Jews builded, and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. And they builded, and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the commandment of Cyrus, and Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia.

 

 

What were those dates of Cyrus, Darius, Artaxerxes? These were the various kings or administrations through which the rebuilding took place.  Let’s go to history.

Before we start, a few technicalities

Sometimes there is a year difference in dates. This may because when the calendar was made 1 BC…0…1 AD a year was skipped in moving from 1 BC to 1 AD.

BC is Before Christ
AD is Anno Domino, The Year of Our Lord
BCE is used by some people as “before common era” to replace BC

BC operates like a negative timeline in math, the numbers get smaller as you move to 0.
When you get to AD the numbers get bigger, moving from Christ’s birth to today. So when you do the math, you have to count down in years to “0” and then reverse the timeline to the positive direction for history after the birth of Christ.

I am spending a lot of time on the calculations.

The reason the mathematical calculations are presented and emphasized is because some people calculate with a different timeline and because of that timeline, they come up with a seven year difference.  It is perhaps because of that seven year difference, they don’t sense an urgency regarding keeping the nation free of communism.

Regardless of whose math is right or wrong, until Jesus is here, you do not want communism in your nation.

0 is traditionally thought of as Christ’s birth, but it has since been realized that this is not correct.  This, of course, affects the timing of the last seven years which affects the seven years of certain eschatalogical timelines.  This will be discussed a few paragraphs down.

This point of whether Jesus was born at what is consider “0” on the timeline is major in relationship to the seven years and those who base their eschatology on that.  Follow the math.

The Timeline

With that background, let’s go onto the dates of when the temple was built.

My original links (from 2021) are below (and there is no guarantee that these links are not changed in the future but as of the date of this publication, they are accurate).  (Only the Decree of Cyrus link has been changed as it was no longer the same link as in 2021).

In attempting to find something more up-to-date, I did come across this article which actually makes similar arguments to what I have listed here, so I will link it for reference.  However, it is much more complete than what I have said.

If the prophetic dates extend from the one of the decrees, to the time of Christ, which date will make sense?

Again, like the wall that Trump attempted to build at the southern border, there were starts and stops along the way of the completion of the project.

If you do the math, only one date fits the criteria.  The other dates fall outside of the time slot that we know makes sense for the life of Jesus.

We said earlier there were 7 prophetic weeks + 62 prophetic weeks.

If you start the timeline from 457 BC this is how it goes.  Cyrus gave the original decree (538 B.C), but as stated earlier, like the wall at the southern border, things were started and stopped.  Things got into earnest starting at 457 BC.

7X7 = 49 years

457 BC – 49 years = 408 BC

7X62 = 434 years

408 BC – 434 BC.   To figure where this date ends you have to deal with the fact that you are moving from the BC to AD timeline.  To subtract this you need to consider the negative and positive time line, BC and AD, as discussed above.   This will be done two ways in an attempt to make a somewhat difficult concept easier to understand.

Here is one way to do the math.

408 BC – 408 years takes you to 0.  However, 0 is ignored in the timeline because things go from 1 BC to 1 AD.  So we end up at 1 AD.

We dealt with 408 of the 434 years (7X62=434), it took us to 1 AD.  That leaves 26 years because  34-8 years = 26.   Eight (8) years are moving down on the BC scale, 26 years are moving up on the AD scale.

1 AD + 26 = 27 AD.

That may be confusing, so let’s do it a different way.

This time the math will be split up a little.

The prophetic timeline again is 7 weeks of years + 62 weeks of years or 7 and 62.

7X7 = 49 years

457 BC – 49 years = 408 BC

7X62 = 434 years

434 years = 400 years + 34 years

408 BC (the date above after subtracting the first 7X7 or 49 years) – 400 year takes you to  8  BC or eight years before 0

8 BC (8 years to reach)…..0…. + …. (26 years from 0 to reach) 26  BC.  But because the timeline goes from 1 BC to 1 AD, ignoring the zero, we will add 1 to the timeline.    26 + 1 = 27 AD.

In other words, the mistake of ignoring the zero lands us on 1 AD instead of 0.

If you will move the cursor from one number to another, you will find there are 34 digits.

This brings you to a total of 34 years as 8 + 26 = 34.   But due to the 0/1 error you end up at 27 AD.

This is taken from Wikipedia to help with understanding this concept.

Historians have never included a year zero. This means that between, for example, 1 January 500 BC and 1 January AD 500, there are 999 years: 500 years BC, and 499 years AD preceding 500. In common usage anno Domini 1 is preceded by the year 1 BC, without an intervening year zero.

Remember, you are dealing with both sides of a timeline, one before zero, and one after zero, but the total number of years are added from each side of the timeline.

That brings you to 27 AD.

What happened in 27 AD?

Dr. D. James Kenndy, in his book, Messiah, Prophecies Fulfilled, writes this on p. 31.

“Tiberius Caesare began his rule in 11 A.D. and therefore the fifteeth year of his reign would be 26 A.D.”

This fifteenth year is mentioned in the book of Luke.

Now a year is 365 days so depending on when Tiberius Caesar began to reign that could take you into 27 AD.    We don’t know and can’t assume that the fifteeth year started on January 1 and ended on December 31.  If he started any time within that period, the reign would have gone into 27 A.D.  In any case, for the purposes of the math, let’s go on.

The beginning of the book written by Luke says this.

Luke 1:1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,

2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;

3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,

 

Luke was writing an ordered account of Jesus’s life. In chapter 3, Luke wrote about Jesus’s baptism. He mentions this fifteenth year of Tiberius Caesar.

Luke 3:Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,

2 Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.

3 And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;

4 As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;

6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

Luke 3:21 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,

22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

 

If Jesus was about 30 years old (about thirty years of age) in the 15th year of Tiberius Caesar, and that year was 26 AD, or since a year has 365 days, that reign of the 15th year (365 days) could have extended into 27 AD. If Jesus was around 30 years of age he would have been born around 4 BC or earlier.

A point to consider is that Herod decreed what is historically called the Massacre of the Innocents. He slew all the babes two years old and younger in an attempt to slay the babe Jesus.  The Wise Men came to visit Jesus and so King Herod learned about Jesus and wanted any competition  killed. So if Jesus was already up to two years old in 4 BC,  and Herod sought to kill all children two years old and younger, that would extend to children born as early as 6 BC.

Also, Herod died in 4 BC so the birth of Jesus had to be between 4 BC or up to two years earlier before the death of Herod since Herod was involved in this decree to slaughter children two years old and younger.

While this is not exact,  Jesus was “around 30 years of age”.    The 15th year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar could have extended to more than one calendar  year.   His reign did not necessarily start on January 1 and extend to December 31.  It does get in the ball park figure of 26 AD or 27 AD. for the beginning of the ministry of Jesus which means Jesus’s death would have been around 30 AD.

The whole point of this exercise is simply to show that a “slush fund” of seven years does not exist.  The timelines are too tight.

And this makes a big difference when it comes to eschatology.

Jesus was anointed at his baptism when he was baptized by John the Baptist.

John 1:26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;

27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.

29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.

31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

Not too long after that, Jesus went to the temple.  There is a time reference given in this next segment of scripture with is the chapter following the chapter listed above.  Therefore, this time reference is at the beginning of Jesus’s ministry.  The whole context is given here, which includes his first miracle at the marriage in Cana of Galilee.  This is simply to show that this time reference was given early in Jesus’s ministry and it will be used to verify dates already given.

John 2:1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:

2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.

3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.

4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.

5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.

7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.

8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.

9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,

10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.

13 And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:

15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables;

16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise.

17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.

18 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?

19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?

21 But he spake of the temple of his body.

22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.

23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.

24 But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,

25 And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.

There is a date given in the above scriptures.

John 2:20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?

When was the rebuilding of the temple started?

From Britannica we find this quote.  “Construction began in 20 bce and lasted for 46 years.”  BCE = BC

It is also confirmed in this article,  the fact that King Herod, that ordered the massacre of the Innocents, died in 4 BC, meaning again that Jesus was born prior to “0” as has been thought in prior generations.

The point of all these details is that Jesus began to minister when he was about 30 years of age, at that time the temple had been building for 46 years, so the year was around 27 AD (after adding the 1 to account for the fact that there is no 0), and it is generally considered that Jesus ministered for 3 years before he was crucified, which will bring the date of crucifixion to about 30 AD.

Again, the whole point of this is to show that the seven years that everyone relies on  does not exist in this timeline of how I am doing the math.

Again, why am I doing this?  It is not to get into some prophetic argument about dates.  It is simply to point out that if the seven years you rely on may or may not be correct, then you want to be sure to vote so that the United States does not turn into a communist nation before the coming of Jesus.

Let’s review some of the verses already given.

Up until now the focus has been on the seven (7) weeks and sixty-two weeks in verse 25.

Daniel 9:25  Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

 

Let’s go back to verse 24.

Daniel 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

 

Who finished disobedience, made an end of sins, made reconciliation for iniquity, brought in everlasting righteousness, sealed up the vision and prophecy (in other words, fulfilled it), and was anointed as the most holy?  Jesus the Christ.  Jesus Christ was anointed at his baptism, John the Baptist being the individual who performed the baptism, but God the Father anointed Jesus at the event of the baptism as the Holy Spirit like a dove came upon Jesus.  From that moment, from his baptism, Jesus went on to do the will of the Father which culminated in Jesus being the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

Who fulfills Daniel 9:24 ? Jesus, the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. The work of Christ was finished at the cross. Jesus said, “It is finished.”

II Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

 

Here is another verse.

Daniel 9:26  After the sixty-two weeks the Anointed One will be cut off, and will have nothing.

 

62 weeks is AD 27 as shown above.  So after AD 27, the Anointed One will be killed.  It is sometime after AD 27.  When?  It is simply sometime after that date.  It does not say the day after AD 27.  It is sometime after ….

Daniel 9:27a  He will make a firm covenant with many for one week. In the middle of the week he will cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease….

 

Verse 27. He will make a firm covenant with many for one week. Jesus came with the New Covenant.

Since covenants are sealed with blood, the first blood that was shed was of course, Jesus’s blood on the cross (and all the other places it was shed).  Jesus’s blood is the blood that redeems from sin, the blood of the New Covenant.

After this, the blood of Stephen, the first martyr, was shed.

Jesus came bringing the New Covenant.  This is general theology that is agreed upon.
In the middle of the week he will cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease.

So a prophetic week is seven years.  In the middle of the week, Jesus causes the sacrifice to cease as Jesus is the last Lamb slain, Jesus is the final sacrifice.  One-half of seven is 3 1/2.  27 + 3 1/2 = 30 1/2 and it is generally conceded that 30 AD is one of the dates accepted for the crucifixion of Jesus.   27 AD + 3 or 3 1/2 years becomes 30 AD.

For Daniel, that was in future time so it says, “he will”.  We look back at the cross and understand now what that meant.  Jesus as the last Lamb slain from the foundation of the world made the sacrifice and the offering of the temple no longer necessary or made the sacrifice and the offering to cease.  Until Jesus’s work on the cross the sacrifice of bulls, goats, and sheep, etc., were a temporary measure (set up sovereignly by God as was given to Moses) to deal with the problem of sinful man approaching a Holy God.  After Jesus, a physical lamb no longer needs to be brought to the temple, Jesus as the last Lamb slain for redemption seeks for people to believe and ask Him into their hearts to apply his Blood and his redemptive work instead of the blood of bulls and goats.

Jesus was about 30 years in the scripture in Luke.

Luke 3:23  Jesus himself, when he began to teach, was about thirty years old,

 

The middle of the week would be 1/2 of 7 or in prophetic time, 3 1/2 years.  There is general consensus that Jesus was crucified around 33 years of age.

In the middle of the week he will cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease. Jesus was the last sacrifice. Jesus was the last Lamb to be slain for the sin of mankind. Jesus was the final sacrifice. The temple sacrifices were no longer needed.

Daniel 9:26And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

 

After the Anointed One (Jesus) is cut off (crucified) the prince of the people who will come (Romans) will destroy the city and sanctuary.  this happened in 70 AD.  I take the word “flood” to mean an “overflowing” invasion and war will be to the end.  There was war until Jerusalem was destroyed.  Desolations are determined.  The historian, Josepheus, wrote of the desolations and suffering of that time.

Daniel 9:27  And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

 

We’ve already talked about how Jesus caused the sacrifice to cease.  Now let’s talk about this part of the verse.

Daniel 9:27b  and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

and for the overspreading of abominations... this refers to all the rejection and persecution of Jesus during his lifetime; this rejection and persecution was ultimately inspired by satan who fought Christ through men who had not yet yielded to Christ

he shall make it desolate…satan who sought Christ’s crucifixion ultimately inspired it

even until the consummation, and that determined….the cross was God’s idea, it was the consummation of the sacrifice of the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world,  it was determined through the Blood of Jesus there would be redemption opened for mankind. Jesus prayed, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me, nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.  It was determined by God, Jesus laid down his life and said that no man taketh it from me, I lay it down of myself, he said he could have called 12 legions of angels, but then how would scripture be fulfilled?

shall be poured upon the desolate.  The wrath of God for the sin of mankind was poured out on the sinless Lamb  of God, but he was made desolate for our sins, he said, my God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Young’s Literal Translation  Daniel 9:27  And he hath strengthened a covenant with many — one week, and in the midst of the week he causeth sacrifice and present to cease, and by the wing of abominations he is making desolate, even till the consummation, and that which is determined is poured on the desolate one.’

Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions.
He was crushed for our iniquities.
The punishment that brought our peace was on him;
and by his wounds we are healed.
