Comments on AI and ChatGPT

ChatGPT is energy hungry.

People discuss the carbon footprint in relation to ChatGPT.  In my opinion, that is measuring the wrong metric to hide the real question, which is energy usage.  If you measure an unimportant statistic and try to make that statistic “a big deal” you miss the real information.

Those who want green energy investments focus on carbon footprints.  They also focus on the so-called dangers of carbon.  Maybe they missed the second grade science class that explains that plants need carbon dioxide to breathe out the oxygen which humans breathe in; humans breathe in oxygen to live.  In return, humans breathe out carbon dioxide which plants breathe in; plants use carbon dioxide in photosynthesis which results in oxygen for humans.  It’s a good arrangement .

I don’t know in what year they quit teaching about the carbon dioxide and oxygen cycle and replaced it with teaching transgenderism, but surely there are readers out there who remember those lessons prior to woke elementary school.

Carbon dioxide is necessary.  If we listen to those who are anti-carbon, they would remove the means of oxygen production in the earth and then human beings could not breathe in oxygen and live.  Talk about genocide … that is the ultimate genocidal plan.

The whole “end of the world” “climate change” scenario is flawed.  As a tactic, the messaging has changed from from global cooling to climate change to global warming.  “Climate change end-of-the-world” scenarios are used as a scare tactic to try to get the masses to cede power to politicians, corporations, and oligarchs.

Therefore, hear, O kings, and understand; learn, you judges of the ends of the earth, Listen closely, you who hold the attention of the crowds, and who please yourselves by disturbing the nations.

The Apocrypha, while being part of Catholic Bibles, is not part of Protestant Bibles. There could be a debate on why it was removed. Perhaps it was because of the Reformation. Perhaps it was to save money in printing Bibles. Perhaps it was for some other reason.

Information on the Apocryphra from Wikipedia.

Here is an article on Martin Luther, who included the Apocrypha in his German edition of the Bible (Martin Luther was German).

In any case, some Reformists, while not accepting it as part of scripture, did think it had valuable things to say.  Martin Luther, a Reformist, consider it “useful for reading“.

In preparing for this article, I had to do a bit more research than usual and read through some of Martin Luther’s quotes.  Frankly, I was stunned by some of them.  And question some of them.  He’s the gift that keeps on giving.   And I’ll leave it at that.

Here is something to consider.  Corrupt kings were probably happy that this was no longer being preached from the pulpit.

Wisdom 6
6:1 Wisdom is better than power, and a prudent man is better than a powerful one.
6:2 Therefore, hear, O kings, and understand; learn, you judges of the ends of the earth.
6:3 Listen closely, you who hold the attention of the crowds, and who please yourselves by disturbing the nations.
6:4 For power has been given to you from the Lord and strength from the Most High, who will examine your works and scrutinize your thoughts.
6:5 For, when you were ministers of his kingdom, you did not judge correctly, nor keep the law of justice, nor walk according to the will of God.
6:6 Horribly and quickly he will appear to you, because he will make a severe judgment for those who are in charge.
6:7 For, to the little, great mercy is granted, but the powerful will endure powerful torment.
6:8 For the Lord will not exempt anyone’s character, nor will he stand in awe of anyone’s greatness, because he himself made the little and the great, and he is equally concerned for everyone.
6:9 But a powerful torture pursues the powerful.
6:10 Therefore, O kings, these, my words, are for you, so that you may learn wisdom and not perish.
6:11 For those who have justly preserved justice will be justified, and those who have learned these things will find what to answer.
6:12 Therefore, desire my words, love them, and you will have instruction.
6:13 Wisdom is pure and never fades away, and is easily seen by those who love her and found by those who seek her.
6:14 She anticipates those who desire her, so that she first reveals herself to them.
6:15 Whoever awakens early to seek her, will not labor, for he will find her sitting at his door.
6:16 Therefore, by thinking about her, understanding is perfected, and whoever remains watchful for her, will quickly be secure.
6:17 For she goes about seeking such as are worthy of her, and she reveals herself to them cheerfully in the ways, and meets them with all foresight.
6:18 For the very true beginning of her is the desire for instruction.
6:19 Therefore, the zeal for instruction is love, and love is the keeping of her laws, and the keeping of her laws is the perfection of incorruptibility,
6:20 while incorruptibility makes us near to God.
6:21 And so, the desire for wisdom leads to an everlasting kingdom.
6:22 If, therefore, your delight is in thrones and scepters, O kings of the people, love wisdom, so that you may reign forever;
6:23 love the light of wisdom, all you who lead the peoples.
6:24 But what wisdom is, and how she was made, I will report, and I will not hide the mysteries of God from you, but I will investigate her from the beginning of her birth, and I will place the knowledge of her in the light, and will not pass over the truth.
6:25 Neither will I hold to the path that dwindles away with envy, because such a man will not partake in wisdom.
6:26 For the proliferation of the wise is sanity for the world, and a wise king is the mainstay of the people.
6:27 Therefore, receive instruction by my words, and it will benefit you.

But wait.  There’s more.  This is found in the sixty-six books of the Protestant Bible, which are also in the Catholic Bible.

Psalm 2:1 (KJV) Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying,

3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.

11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

Proverbs 17:23  A wicked man receives a bribe in secret, to pervert the ways of justice.

Proverbs 29:2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

Psalm 33:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

Ecclesiastes 10:5 There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceedeth from the ruler

James 5:1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.

3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

5 Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

6 Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.

7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.

It needs to be pointed out that God is not against blessing people financially.  If people tithe and give offerings and alms, the Lord fulfills the promises of scripture and rebukes the devourer and pours out a blessing.  There has to be obedience to the law of the tithe and other scriptures on giving for that to occur in fullness.  Servants of the Lord God in the Bible, such as Abraham and Job, were blessed financially.

The question or issue is regarding any corruption or evil involved in gaining wealth; that is the problem.  Are people killed, murdered, destroyed, used in slave labor, and stolen from in ways evident and not so obvious (such as through the printing of fiat money or creating disasters and then going in afterwards to pick up the real estate through pennies on the dollar)?

A case in point would be the Ukrainian war.  By now it should be evident that this is not about some lofty idealistic purpose.  This is the enrichment of the military industrial complex at the expense of Ukrainians used as cannon fodder and should be condemned internationally.  The criminals who are behind it, including those in Washington D.C., and especially those in Washington D.C., should be brought before an international tribunal and tried for war crimes.  How many lies have been told regarding this war, and how much death and destruction has occurred, first and foremost, to the Ukrainians?  And there have been effects to other nations as well, but none have paid as severe a price as the Ukrainians, among whom hundreds of thousands have been killed.  Follow the money trail and who is profiting?

Malachi Chapter 3:7-11 Wherein shall we return? The Tithe

Malachi 3:7 Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?

8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.

10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.

There is tremendous pushback on the topic of tithing.  There are those who say it is Old Testament and no longer required.  There are those who say we are not under the laws of the Old Testament.  Actually, that is not correct.

There is one type of law we are not under, but that does not negate all the rest of the Old Testament.  It is this.  Because Jesus became the last Lamb, slain before the foundation of the Word, as a sacrifice on the cross, through which sacrifice redemption is offered to mankind (each must individually receive it), we no longer have to bring lambs and other sacrifices to the temple.  That’s it.  We are not under the temple laws of sacrifice of lambs, sheep, goats, turtle doves and the rest.

But other things are still in effect.

In addition, the law of the tithe was given before the laws of Moses.  The law came through Moses.  Moses was inspired of God to write it down.  But tithing began with Abraham.  Actually, sacrifices were given in the days of Adam and Eve.  Cain and Abel are recorded as giving sacrifices.  Noah gave sacrifices.  When it got to Abraham, Abraham gave tithes to Melchisedek.  Jesus is called in the order of Melchisedek.  Therefore, in the New Testament, we give tithes to Jesus.

Hebrews 7:1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;

2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

4 Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.

5 And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:

6 But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.

7 And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.

8 And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.

9 And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.

10 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

13 For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.

14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

15 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,

16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.

17 For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

18 For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.

19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.

20 And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:

21 (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)

22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

23 And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:

24 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Jesus said, before the cross, this:

Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

He did not undo the law of the tithe. He said, “not to leave the other (tithe) undone.”

If a person would say, that is spoken only to the Jews, then what are you going to do with John 3:16? What will you do with all the Words of Jesus?  Are you going to cut this out of the scriptures as well?

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

Will you say the words spoken by Jesus while on earth were only for a small number of people to whom Jesus spoke during his brief time in physical form on earth? Is not the Word eternal and everlasting?

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Let’s look at it from another standpoint.  There are lots of programs to help the poor.  They’ve been going on for years, decades.  Why is the problem not solved?  The ultimate reason is people are under the curse.  There is a curse that rests upon people who don’t tithe.  I know people don’t like to hear that.  They say that God will supply their needs.  God will, if you follow the plan.  And part of the plan is Malachi 3:7-11 and Matthew 6:33.

If a physical fitness trainer gives you a plan and it requires certain food, certain exercises on certain days, and certain lifestyle changes, and you only follow part of the plan, will you get full results?  We all know the answer is no.

But somehow we think we can get full results with only occasional effort when it comes to the things of the Bible.  Spiritual things require daily diligence just as much as natural things.

Part of the problem is the hypnotism of the mind that comes from the woke psychological warfare that says “if you perceive something a certain way, then it is so”.  That is not true.  That defies all law.

Tell me, if you perceive and imagine that you can jump off (don’t jump) a cliff that nothing will happen because you perceive and believe that you are immune to the law of gravity, will your perception save you?  Of course  not.  You can scream all the way down to the bottom that you are immune from the law of gravity and this is not happening to you, but the fall is happening because you defied the law of gravity.

If you would say, what about the rich?  Look at their ends.  We see many stories of divorces, drug overdoses, suicides or some kind of tragedy with the ultra-uber-rich; those stories are plastered on the tabloids littering checkout counters.  Just because nothing has happened yet doesn’t mean that they are immune.

Psalm 73:1 Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.

2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.

3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

4 For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.

5 They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

6 Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.

7 Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.

8 They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.

9 They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

10 Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

11 And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

12 Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

13 Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.

14 For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.

15 If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.

16 When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;

17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.

18 Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.

19 How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.

20 As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.

21 Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.

22 So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.

23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.

24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.

26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

27 For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.

28 But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works.

Luke 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:

17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?

18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.

19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.

23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.

24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?

25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?

26 If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?

27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?

29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.

30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.

31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Stuff is the easiest stuff in the world for God to give.  He created the world and stuff.  But if you are under the curse, you are laboring under the thorns and thistles.

There are invisible laws of the kingdom.  You might be doing everything you should be at a natural level, but if you are fighting a spiritual curse you will still struggle until you line up with the laws of God.  As I said, if you jump over a cliff (don’t do it), believing that you are immune to the laws of gravity, it just isn’t going to work out too well no matter what you confess.

It’s the whole counsel of God that brings blessing to a life,  not just bits and pieces of it.  And we are all growing into that more and more.

Isaiah 9:7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

Paul, who wrote many of the New Testament epistles (letters) said this. If anyone had reason to rest on his laurels, Paul did.

Philippians 3:12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Let me just add something else that just came to me.  All those people who say you don’t need to tithe, are those who tell that to you offering you tapes or DVDs or books for money to tell you you don’t need to tithe?  Are they appealing to your flesh and making money off of you?

And, are politicians who tell you that you don’t need the church making you poor and weak to be dependent on them (since you are not prospering through obeying the law of tithing) in order to get your vote so you can get their handout and keep them in power through a cycle of entitlement, poverty, weakness and need?  Who wins?

And who do you think is behind all this telling you not to tithe?  Satan is.  The tithe pays for the gospel to go out through various venues.  The information of the gospel is free, but it costs bandwidth expenses, television and radio broadcast expenses, printing expenses and more to spread the gospel.  Where is that money going to come from, or where should it come from?  It should come from those who appreciate what Jesus did and want to share it with others.  It should come from tithes and offerings.

Actually, there have been those who have been non-believers who took up the law of the tithe and become so blessed that they became believers.  Funny.  Sometimes the unbelievers get things right better than the believers.

Luke 16:8  And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

Come to the cross of Christ.

I Corinthians 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

Revelation 18:18 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.

2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.

6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.

7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.

8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.

9 And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,

10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.

11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:

12 The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,

13 And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.

14 And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.

15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,

16 And saying, Alas, alas that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!

17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,

18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!

19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.

21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.

22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;

23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.

24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

The Gift and the Responsibility

Samson and Delilah MET DP855461

This portion of the story of Samson comes from Judges 16.  Samson had gifts and responsibilities before God and at this point in his life he had had some failures in fulfilling his duties.

Judges 16:20 And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the Lord was departed from him.

He assumed he would be able to continue to operate in the strength he always had, but the Lord had departed from him. When he got to the moment of his death, he finally obeyed God.

Judges 16:1 Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her.

2 And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come hither. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him.

3 And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron.

4 And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.

5 And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.

6 And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee.

7 And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.

8 Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green withs which had not been dried, and she bound him with them.

9 Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he brake the withs, as a thread of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known.

10 And Delilah said unto Samson, Behold, thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray thee, wherewith thou mightest be bound.

11 And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.

12 Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And there were liers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he brake them from off his arms like a thread.

13 And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web.

14 And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awaked out of his sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web.

15 And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth.

16 And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death;

17 That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother’s womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.

18 And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.

19 And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.

20 And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the Lord was departed from him.

21 But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.

22 Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven.

23 Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god, and to rejoice: for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.

24 And when the people saw him, they praised their god: for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us.

25 And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars.

26 And Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house standeth, that I may lean upon them.

27 Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were upon the roof about three thousand men and women, that beheld while Samson made sport.

28 And Samson called unto the Lord, and said, O Lord God, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.

29 And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left.

30 And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life.

31 Then his brethren and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the buryingplace of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.

Any gift God gives is for the benefit of other people, and if that lesson is ever forgotten, the gift can be removed.

Was the Apostle Paul always positive?

Photo by Kenny Eliason on Unsplash

There is a strain of thought that no negative or correctional thing should ever be said.

Paul the apostle wrote 13 or 14 books of the New Testament.  Some debate about the book of Hebrews, but it sounds like Paul.

In any case, he wrote at least 13 books.  Was he ever negative?  If you read I Corinthians he had some strong correctional words.

1 Corinthians 5:1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife.

2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.

3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,

4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

In another place he said this.

I Timothy 1:20 Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

Paul also said this.

Titus 1:13 This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

He also said this.

II Corinthians 5:9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.

10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

Hebrews says this.

Hebrews 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

There is profit in correction. People hire coaches. And while the coaches may affirm what is already being done correctly, they also point out areas of improvement.

Taking care of business ultimately creates “the peaceable fruit of righteousness”.  But usually there is something that has to be done in the process.

If someone is too lazy to take the trash out, for a while, maybe a day or two, it may not matter too much.  But then flies, cockroaches, rodents, stench, germs and sickness come.

It’s better to take out the trash before there are repercussions.

The fact that Jesus has given gifts and graces to mankind through his redemptive work does not absolve mankind of the need for obedience.  The switch between the Old Testament and New Testament, the difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament, the difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant is that with the Holy Spirit within for those who have been born again, for the believer, that becomes an internal awareness of things to be done … or not done … as the case may be … rather than reading a list of items and checking them off throughout the day.  The finished work of Christ does not mean that obedience is no longer necessary.  As a matter of fact, the book of James points out that if you have faith, there will be works.

But with bad teaching, even a believer can walk in wrong ways.

Romans 12:12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

Pastors are hindered because people never want a correctional message, or at least enough of the congregation pushes back against a correctional message that sometimes pastors can’t say what needs to be said.

Everyone wants the promises of God, but there is discipline and obedience in receiving them.  If nothing else, there is at least discipline of the tongue and life.  And in the case of financial prosperity, there is the discipline of obeying the law of the tithe (read Malachi chapter 3* below).  You can’t skip part of the process and expect a full reward.

Psalm 24:3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place?

4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

5 He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

6 This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.

If you say that is Old Testament, that doesn’t matter, that is incorrect. The only thing from the Old Testament that became unnecessary after Jesus went to the cross was the necessity to bring lambs and goats and various offerings to the temple to cover sin. Jesus was the last Lamb, he was the final sacrifice to deal with sin.

But the work of Christ does not absolve mankind of the need for obedience. The Ten Commandments are still in effect.  So is all scripture.  There are lessons to be learned from the Old Testament to the New Testament.  And if you have not read the Bible through, today is the first day of a new year.  Grab yourself a Bible reading plan.  Many are offered by various groups.  There are even Bibles that divide up readings by the day and you can read a little bit each day of the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs.  If you have never read the Bible, that would be a good New Year’s resolution and if you will be faithful to do it day by day, it will change your  life.

II Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Romans 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.

21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

In the natural, if one part of the body is injured, the rest of the body has to compensate for it.  The rest of the body is aware, in some way, that there is a problem.

God lives by his own rules, so to speak.

Jesus said this.

Matthew 5:29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

Peter said this.

II Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

It is quite possible for God to pluck away parts of the body that simply insist on doing their own thing rather than finding their place of responsibility within the body and doing what they have been told to do by the Holy Spirit. The burden is simply too great on the body that is functioning properly to keep rebellious cells.

That is what cancer is. Cancer is formed by rebellious cells and the way it is generally dealt with is to be cut out of the body.   Or the cancerous cells are killed by chemotherapy or by some other means.

It is a warning to us in 2024 not to be like that within the body of Christ.

The body of Christ is coming up against a hard stop.  There is a phrase of letting it “slip by” or “slide by”. Because the consequences of the weight of disobedience fall disproportionately upon certain members of the body of Christ, there is a hard stop so they don’t have to keep carrying that weight.

Can I just say this?  I have other things to do.  But I cannot get away from the fact that at least one person out there needs to be aware of these things and I keep getting sent back to focus on this theme for the last few days.  The whole body of Christ is aware at some level when there is a problem and I am not saying anything that a lot of you don’t already know.  I’ve learned by experience that if I write something, all I do is voice what a lot of you already know; you are not ignorant.    I’ll get judged if I don’t write at least enough to make the problem clear, and like Paul, Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men.   I really want to get onto other things I need to do today, so hopefully this is sufficient.

*Malachi 3:1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.

2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:

3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.

4 Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the Lord, as in the days of old, and as in former years.

5 And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the Lord of hosts.

6 For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

7 Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them.

12 And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of hosts.

13 Your words have been stout against me, saith the Lord. Yet ye say, What have we spoken so much against thee?

14 Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the Lord of hosts?

15 And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.

16 Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name.

17 And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.

18 Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

The Underside of a Tapestry

Textiles; tapestry weaving, a loom being raised to working t Wellcome V0024160

Tapestry is not a familiar term in the twenty-first century. Tapestries are complex woven pictures.

La Resurrezione, workshop of Pieter van Aelst, 1525 - 1531

The back side of a tapestry can show the change of thread color, or have some knots.  The top side of the tapestry is the finished product.  The top side may look beautiful.  The bottom side may look unappealing with a mass of threads and knots.

Cassie Floan helps with a river tapestry (9897215656)

Our lives are like tapestries and much of what is woven in them depends upon us.  Do we start something and then stop, and a thread is cut and that part of the tapestry is incomplete?  Do we fail to fill in one section of the tapestry totally?

Jesus purchased back the ability to walk in the graces and gifts and life of God.  Once we receive that by being born again, what we do with that is up to us.

There are many parables that indicate that life is a two way street, a two way relationship between God and man.  There are those who like to focus on the finished work of Christ only, and it is a finished work.  However, the objective is to move the finished work from the unseen into the seen, “thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”  That requires our involvement and obedience to the Spirit of the living God.

None of us knows what tiny action may be the thread of a new beginning in the tapestry of life.

There used to be a saying that you don’t hear anymore, at least I haven’t heard it for a long time; it is an altered rhyme of a poem.

“Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do or die.” Source

It sounds a lot like what the Lord God said in Eden.  He gave a command and if they did not obey the consequence was “thou shalt surely die”.

Who has despised the day of small things?

It is very easy and human for the natural mind to take over and say, “I don’t need to bother with that” or “that is unimportant”.  We really don’t have a good understanding of what is important from the standpoint of heaven.

Isaiah 55:6 Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:

11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
